Tom Burns
Vice President, Business Development
Tegra Medical

Tom Burns has been in the device industry for more than 22 years working on both the OEM and supplier side of the equation. He joined Tegra Medical in 2008, and before Tegra, he was vice president of marketing and sales at Web Industries, an employee-owned custom converter serving the medical diagnostic and aerospace markets. Tom began his contract manufacturing experience with ACT Medical in 1997, a small design firm that was later acquired by MedSource and subsequently UTI and rebranded as Accellent, the largest contract manufacturer of single-use medical devices and components.

In varying roles over nine years, he was involved in turnkey product design work, as well as component and finished device manufacturing for the orthopedic, cardiovascular and general surgery markets. For the first 15 years of his career, Tom held various sales and marketing jobs with Johnson & Johnson, Edwards Lifescienes and Genzyme BioSurgery. He began his career with Whitehall Laboratories. Tom graduated with honors from Northeastern University with a bachelor of sciences in marketing.

Dave Carlson
Director of Internal Communications & Community Relations
Smith & Nephew Orthopaedics

Dave Carlson grew up in Memphis, earning a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Memphis and subsequently held positions of increasing responsibility with Union Planters National Bank (now Regions Bank). An entrepreneur at heart, during his career he formed Carlson Communications, Inc. and was general manager of Acquisition Management Services, Inc. He joined Smith & Nephew in 1992 and has held positions in product management, marketing communications and sales support. He currently holds the position of director of internal communications & community relations. He has held securities licenses Series 7, 24 & 53 with the NASD, is a six sigma green belt, and has attended Boston College Center for Corporate Citizenship. He has also held board and leadership positions with the American Diabetes Association, Hope House Day Care, Inc. He currently serves on the Memphis Crime Commission, the Chickasaw Council of the Boy Scouts of America, and is a disaster relief reservist for Hope Force International.

Leigh Anne Downes
Director, Life Sciences Business Development
Greater Memphis Chamber

Leigh Anne is the Director of Life Science Business Development for the Greater Memphis Chamber. Joining the chamber in June of 2007, Leigh Anne is responsible for business recruitment, retention and expansion in all aspects of the life science industry. Prior to joining the chamber, Leigh Anne served as a Regulatory Associate with Smith & Nephew in the company's Trauma and Clinical Therapies Division. While at Smith & Nephew, Leigh Anne trained under the Regulatory Group Director in FDA submissions and compliance as well as facility registrations. Additionally, she trained under the Director of Clinical Therapies in investigator monitoring and contract management. Prior to joining the life science industry, Leigh Anne served four years under the Herenton administration as the Administrator of Real Estate Development and Finance for the city's Housing and Community Development Division. Leigh Anne brought to that role a twelve year working knowledge of developing various forms of commercial real estate and successful residential mortgage banking experience.

Leigh Anne holds a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership with a concentration in Healthcare Management from Union University. Leigh Anne serves as part of the executive staff of the chamber as well as a member of the business continuity team. Additionally, Leigh Anne serves on the Board of Directors for the Tennessee Biotechnology Association. Leigh Anne is also a fall 2007 graduate of Leadership Memphis' Grassroots Program and volunteers her time with the Memphis City Schools Robotics Team for 2010.

David Finch
Senior Director, Corporate Procurement & Planning
Wright Medical Technology, Inc.

David Finch is the corporate director of planning and procurement for Wright Medical Technology. He joined Wright Medical Technology in 2009 and is responsible for global demand forecasting and corporate planning and procurement systems and processes. Prior to joining Wright Medical, Finch was the director of worldwide supply chain at Johnson & Johnson Medical and has held multiple operations and supply chain positions with Becton Dickinson for 22 years. David holds a masters degree in Organizational Management and earned his bachelors degree from the University of South Carolina.

Larry Foster
Executive Director
InMotion Memphis

Larry Foster serves as the executive director for InMotion. Larry has over 26 years of medical device experience primarily within the orthopedics and spine sectors. For the last 15 years, Larry has held senior management roles in sales, marketing and professional education for Biomet, Smith & Nephew and TranS1. Prior to his management roles, Larry had 12 years of field sales experience with Zimmer and Target Therapeutics. As a registered nurse, Larry worked in surgical nursing prior to entering the device industry. He earned a B.S. Degree in life sciences and an A.D. Degree in nursing from Indiana State University.

Jodie Gilmore
Vice President, Strategic Business Development

Jodie Gilmore is the vice president of strategic business development for Onyx Medical Corporation. She has been with Onyx for 13 years and is responsible for sales and marketing, sourcing and quality operations. Prior to joining Onyx, Jodie worked at Apple Computer, Inc in worldwide product management, product marketing and business management roles. Jodie earned her bachelor of business administration degree, graduating with honors from the University of Texas at Austin - McCombs School of Business.

Richard W. Smith
Managing Director, Life Sciences & Specialty Services
FedEx Express

Richard Smith has a deep understanding of the valuable role logistics serve in connecting people and goods and creating economic growth. As the son of FedEx founder Frederick W. Smith, he literally grew up with the business watching FedEx evolve from an express shipping company to a worldwide portfolio of services. In his role as managing director of life sciences and specialty services, Smith provides strategic direction for developing customized logistics and supporting specialized services.

Smith joined FedEx Services in 2005 as a senior solutions analyst. In 2007 he was promoted to manager of supply chain solutions, responsible for FedEx supply chain.

Smith earned his undergraduate degree from George Washington University and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Mississippi School of Law. He serves on the Board for LeBonheur Children’s Hospital Foundation and Blue Streak Scholarship Fund.

Joe Zuzula
Director of Sales and Marketing
Orchid Orthopedic Solutions

Mr. Zuzula joined Orchid in September, 2007 as the Sales and Marketing Manager and was promoted to Director of Sales and Marketing in 2008. Prior to Orchid, he worked at Orchid Stealth for 13 years as the Director of Sales, Marketing and Quality and has extensive experience in the large-joint, supplier orthopedic market. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Michigan State University.
